Toyota has come up with some pretty ingenious ways of keeping you and your family safer on the road over the years. Many of these safety features are driver-assist technologies found in the Toyota Safety Sense suite. Here are a few you should look out for as you shop for your next Toyota vehicle:

1. Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection

Many new Toyotas come standard with this impressive system. The pre-collision system uses a forward-facing camera and radar to look for pedestrians, objects, and vehicles ahead of you. If it detects one of these potential dangers, your Toyota will first warn you and then apply its own brakes if you haven’t attempted to avoid the situation. This technology doesn’t take power away from Toyota’s drivers — it simply looks out for potential collisions the driver might not have noticed.

2. Lane Departure Alert

The forward-facing camera serves another function for the lane departure alert system. This feature scans the road for lane lines to keep track of which lane you’re supposed to be in. If you begin to change lanes without your turn signal engages, the lane departure alert issues a warning to bring your attention to it. Equipped with the available steering assist feature, the Toyota will also make slight steering adjustments to bring you back into your lane.

3. Automatic High Beams

This safety feature is pretty straightforward. As you travel with your high beams on, this technology detects when a vehicle is oncoming and turns them off. When that vehicle passes, your high beams switch back on. This feature helps boost the safety of every driver on the road you’re traveling down.

4. Road Sign Assist

With this technology, you don’t have to keep a constant eye out for speed limit signs anymore. The intelligent forward camera detects them for you and displays your current road’s speed limit inside your Toyota’s cabin. This system also detects stop signs, yield signs, and do-not-enter signs.

5. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

The dynamic radar cruise control system is a futuristic feature that takes us closer to a world of automated vehicles — though, you’ll still have complete control over your Toyota. This system uses a radar and camera to scan the road ahead for other vehicles. Once you set your cruise control speed, your Toyota can use this system to speed up and slow down your vehicle depending on what the vehicle ahead is doing. This feature is also available with a lane-tracing assist, which keeps your vehicle centered in its lane while your cruise control is engaged.

6. Blind-Spot Monitor

The available blind-spot monitor makes changing lanes less stressful. This tech senses when there’s a vehicle in your blind spot so that you know when it’s safe to move over to the next lane. This feature also comes with a rear cross-traffic alert system, which is helpful when you’re reversing out of parking spaces.

These next-level safety technologies must be experienced to be believed. When you’re ready to see how they can boost your awareness and safety on the road, visit our team to find a Toyota that fits your lifestyle.
