Understanding Car Insurance | Don't Forge to Read the Fine Print

Understanding a car insurance policy can be tricky. There are an overwhelming number of options and you are usually on the phone with someone who is rambling all the options off without any real explanation. more You are forced to quickly decide what is the best option for a price you can afford and then when your bill arrives, the sense of confusion continues. During the process of setting up a new car insurance policy, you probably did not ask questions about the fine print and you probably just focused on the cost and the main coverage (liability, comprehensive, collision etc.). You skipped over some small (but important) details and it is likely that the agent on the phone did not offer this information. Do you know what factors play a role in the cost of your insurance? Have you taken the time to read and understand your policy? Do you fully understand what you are paying for and covered for? Here are a few commonly misunderstood things about car insurance. The Basics That Affect Your Policy Car insurance policies and prices are not the same for everyone. Which company you choose plays a small role in the final cost, but there are a multitude of other factors that will determine your coverage and what you’ll pay out of pocket each month. If you have never set up an auto insurance policy, be prepared for a lot of questions. So, what do they look at when they are setting up your policy? Make, model & year of the vehicle. Color. Number of doors What city you live in Past driving record Gender How far you drive each year. What the vehicle is used for. Marital status. Past insurance history. Years of experience driving. These are just some of the basic factors that will determine your rates. Each insurance company is different so it is extremely important to ask questions on anything you feel unsure about. Accident Benefits Are Mandatory – And You Have Them Understanding car insurance means knowing everything that you are entitled to in the event of an accident. Most people just assume that your coverage is for the repair or replacement of the vehicle and maybe your policy entitles you to a rental car if your car is in the shop for an extended period of time. But what about YOU? If you have been injured in your vehicle you are entitled to benefits that cover possible time off work and medical expenses such as treatments for the injury. Whether you were at fault, someone else was at fault or drove off the road and hit a sign, you’re still entitled to the same coverage. Immediately after an accident, you need to report your injury to the insurance company at the same time you are reporting the damage to the vehicle. They will walk you through the steps needed to claim that coverage. Oftentimes your injury heals quickly, and you may not actually need to claim anything from your car insurance, but you can also end up needing treatments for weeks or months and that’s when it’s important to know you are covered. Your insurance company will typically get in touch with the office providing treatment. The Dr will send them reports to keep them updated on your condition and you are able to continue getting treatment without paying out of pocket. You could be covered for treatments. Be sure to ask and check the fine print on your policy to find out exactly how much you are entitled to. They Will Replace Car Seats Did you know that even a small fender-bender means any car seats in your vehicle should legally be replaced? This still counts as a collision and any infant/child seat that is involved in an accident needs to be replaced. When you contact your insurance company to report the accident, be sure you tell them how many car seats you had in your vehicle at the time and they will cover the cost to replace them. Other Coverage You Might Not Know About While there are car insurance minimum requirements, there are options you can add to your policy that you might not know are available. Be sure to ask about the following options: Gap Insurance: In the event your vehicle becomes a “Total Loss” gap insurance will help cover the difference between the car’s value and what you still owe on your auto loan. If your car is totaled and is valued at $18,000 but you still owe $23,000 you would still owe $5000 on your loan. Gap insurance covers you in this event. Roadside Coverage: Do not get stuck with a tow truck bill on the side of the road. With this added to your insurance you will be entitled to roadside assistance, some basic repairs, batteries etc. Uninsured Motorist Coverage: If you are hit by a motorist that does not have their own coverage, this addition to your policy will cover you. As a driver understanding car insurance is extremely important. You spend a large amount of money each year to ensure you are taken care of in the event of an accident, so why not take some time to fully understand what you’re paying for and what coverage you have. If you have recently been in a collision, be sure to exchange details with the other driver first and then contact your insurance company. Understand your policy, understand the process, and understand what you are entitled to. If you have any questions about your insurance coverage and/or the repair process, the Certified Collision Specialists at Tansky’s Advanced Auto Body are always happy to help answer your questions. 6 Must-Have Safety Feature on Your New Toyota

Toyota has come up with some pretty ingenious ways of keeping you and your family safer on the road over the years. Many of these safety features are driver-assist technologies found in the Toyota Safety Sense suite. Here are a few you should look out for as you shop for your next Toyota vehicle: more 1. Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection Many new Toyotas come standard with this impressive system. The pre-collision system uses a forward-facing camera and radar to look for pedestrians, objects, and vehicles ahead of you. If it detects one of these potential dangers, your Toyota will first warn you and then apply its own brakes if you haven't attempted to avoid the situation. This technology doesn't take power away from Toyota's drivers — it simply looks out for potential collisions the driver might not have noticed. 2. Lane Departure Alert The forward-facing camera serves another function for the lane departure alert system. This feature scans the road for lane lines to keep track of which lane you're supposed to be in. If you begin to change lanes without your turn signal engages, the lane departure alert issues a warning to bring your attention to it. Equipped with the available steering assist feature, the Toyota will also make slight steering adjustments to bring you back into your lane. 3. Automatic High Beams This safety feature is pretty straightforward. As you travel with your high beams on, this technology detects when a vehicle is oncoming and turns them off. When that vehicle passes, your high beams switch back on. This feature helps boost the safety of every driver on the road you're traveling down. 4. Road Sign Assist With this technology, you don't have to keep a constant eye out for speed limit signs anymore. The intelligent forward camera detects them for you and displays your current road's speed limit inside your Toyota's cabin. This system also detects stop signs, yield signs, and do-not-enter signs. 5. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control The dynamic radar cruise control system is a futuristic feature that takes us closer to a world of automated vehicles — though, you'll still have complete control over your Toyota. This system uses a radar and camera to scan the road ahead for other vehicles. Once you set your cruise control speed, your Toyota can use this system to speed up and slow down your vehicle depending on what the vehicle ahead is doing. This feature is also available with a lane-tracing assist, which keeps your vehicle centered in its lane while your cruise control is engaged. 6. Blind-Spot Monitor The available blind-spot monitor makes changing lanes less stressful. This tech senses when there's a vehicle in your blind spot so that you know when it's safe to move over to the next lane. This feature also comes with a rear cross-traffic alert system, which is helpful when you're reversing out of parking spaces. These next-level safety technologies must be experienced to be believed. When you're ready to see how they can boost your awareness and safety on the road, visit our team to find a Toyota that fits your lifestyle. Image via Ford

Should_You_Get_the_2020_Toyota_Camry_or_the_Toyota_Camry_Hybrid_637419144719612115

Should You Get the 2020 Toyota Camry or the Toyota Camry Hybrid?

The choice of whether to get a standard or hybrid vehicle can be difficult. It usually depends on one's lifestyle and specific needs. Thankfully, Toyota is the originator of the hybrid, so if you're going to try that type of vehicle, why not choose from the best? Ask yourself these three questions to better decide if the 2020 Toyota Camry or the Toyota Camry Hybrid is the best choice for you. more How Far Is Your Commute to Work? Far If your commute equates to 30 minutes or more each way, the hybrid model would probably be your best choice. This model excels with its 51 city/53 highway mpg. You can go the distance worry-free without exorbitant gas prices whether you're commuting for work or taking a long road trip. The regular and EV modes are interchangeable on the hybrid model. The EV mode accompanied by the regular mode gives you a whopping 676-mile range in total. Not Far If your commute is relatively short or you don't often indulge in long road trips, the standard Camry would be a great choice for you. The 29 city/41 highway mpg is still pretty great. You won't have to worry about breaking the bank for your gas tank by choosing this gas-efficient standard model. How Much Are You Looking to Spend on a New Car? The great thing about both of these vehicles is that they're reasonably priced for newer models. The price difference between the standard model and the hybrid is around $4,000. The standard is $24,425, and the hybrid is $28,430. However, if the hybrid option isn't a big deal for you, it may be better to go with the standard model to avoid a higher car payment. How Much Do You Care About the Environment? Reducing your carbon footprint has become a popular topic. Purchasing a hybrid vehicle is a viable option for those who care about this issue. According to the Green Car Guide, electric and hybrid vehicles have lower carbon footprint usages than standard cars. Some believe that purchasing an all-electric vehicle is better for the environment than a hybrid or a standard vehicle like the 2020 Toyota Camry. However, in some states, that's not the case. According to a 2013 study by Climate Central, states that primarily gather electricity from coal or natural gas experience fewer carbon emissions from hybrids than all-electric vehicles. In around 26 states, hybrids produce fewer "lifecycle" carbon emissions than the alternative, making it the better choice for these areas. In conclusion, aside from gas mileage and carbon footprint usage, these two vehicles are not drastically different. You could easily be satisfied with either choice. While you're in the process of deciding, stop by and see us at Tansky Sawmill Toyota. We'll be happy to give you more information regarding both of these models. You may call 614-766-4800 during business hours to speak with a representative.

Tips To Keep Your Car Running Smooth

Summer is a great time for your vehicle to give you all sorts of headaches. It could be from the hot temperatures or the frequent road trips on the weekend. Here are a few tips to avoid the headaches and save you money in the long run: more Check Your Tires Check your tire pressure at least once a month and keep them inflated to the recommended level indicated on the tires. It’s important your tires are at the recommended pressure level, under-inflated tires can cause a tire to blow, whereas over-inflated tires can cause hydroplaning during wet weather. While checking your tire pressure, look at the tread of your tires to ensure they’re not worn. Keep Fluids Replenished Hot temperatures can take a toll on your cooling system and cause serious issues with the engine. If coolant levels are low, the engine’s temperature will rise. Make sure that your coolant level is at the recommended level (there should be an indication for max level) and if it’s not, give our Parts Department a call and we’d be happy to get you taken care of! Change Air Filter The air filter attracts all kinds of debris to keep your cabin clean, this is great but it can get clogged quickly. A clogged air filter can actually decrease your vehicle’s fuel efficiency and by replacing it, you can improve your mileage by up to 10%. If you need to replace your air filter, give our Parts Department a call at 614-766-4800 and they would be happy to assist! Following these tips will help prolong the life of your vehicle, and keep you safe while on the road.
