5 of the Best Fishing Spots Near Columbus, OH

Fishing is a great way to get outdoors for some fresh air, and anglers in Columbus, OH are spoilt for choice with dozens of lakes, rivers, and streams nearby to choose from, all with many excellent fishing spots to discover. Species found in these waterways range from the common crappie, perch, and catfish to the prized walleye and the famous largemouth bass. Licenses are available online from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Website. more 1. Hoover Reservoir One of the most popular lakes in Ohio, Hoover Reservoir is a particularly good place to fish for catfish and White Bass. There are plenty of places to fish along the shores of the reservoir, and fishing from the various docks and pontoons along the banks where there is lots of cover for the fish can yield very good results. Otherwise, one of the most peaceful experiences on offer can be fishing from a boat, although do be aware there is a horsepower limit of 10 HP on boat engines. 2. Antrim Park Located on 5800 Olentangy River Road in Northwest Columbus, this 120-acre lake has excellent fishing along its banks or the large dock, which is fully wheelchair accessible, but unfortunately, no boats are allowed on the lake.  The Olentangy Greenway Trail runs along the side of the lake, which is stocked yearly with rainbow trout. 3. Alum Creek Lake Known as one of the best fishing lakes in the state, Alum Creek Lake, located in the state park of the same name, is an excellent place to fish for largemouth bass and channel catfish, both of which are abundant in the lake. Muskie and saugeye are also common targets for anglers. The banks are covered in thick vegetation, which can make it difficult to find a good spot to fish from them, but ice fishing is popular in the winter months, Look out for rocks, timber, and jutting bluffs which provide the main cover for sport fish. 4. Buckeye Lake This shallow 2,800-acre lake located to the east of Columbus often yields good amounts of bass, both large and smallmouth, as well as hybrid stripers. There are also plenty of saugeye and catfish to be found here. While there are again few places to fish from along the banks, it is possible to rent boats from the marinas along the shore. Kayak fishing is particularly successful along the rocky shoreline. 5. Deer Creek Lake This small lake south of Columbus is located in the state park of the same name and is full of perfect places to fish along its 15 miles of banks. Aside from the native populations of bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie, there are great fisheries of the artificially stocked saugeye and white bass. As there is no horsepower limit for boats on the lake, it can get a little busy at times, but fishing from small boats is well worth the trouble. There are plenty of other amazing spots to fish in and around Columbus, so why not head out and explore? Visit Tansky Sawmill Toyota today to find out more.

5 Signs You May Need Transmission Service in Columbus, OH

More than any other mechanical part of your vehicle, the transmission will take the biggest hit. It works incredibly hard to make your driving experience seamless, and it will have more wear and tear over the life of your vehicle than any other component. It's easily ignored because it's easy to forget it exists when it does its job properly. Fortunately, there are signs your vehicle will communicate when it's time for transmission service at our dealership in Columbus, OH. more 1. Fluid Leak More obvious than other signs, a big puddle of liquid under your parked car is bound to get your attention. Different from motor oil or coolant, transmission fluid has a distinctive sweet smell and bright red color, which is hard to miss. If the puddled liquid is dark red or brown with a burnt odor, that is also transmission fluid, but it has been contaminated. 2. Smell of Burnt Rubber If you smell a burning odor but don't have a leak, your transmission fluid is likely overheating. Debris from the clutch or a breakdown of other mechanical parts can contaminate the fluid and cause it to burn. Luckily, that burning rubber smell alerts us to where the issue is located. To verify it is the transmission fluid, use a dipstick to check the fluid level. If its level is low, color is brown or smells like burning rubber, head in for service immediately. 3. Unresponsive to Gear Changes A transmission's job is to send power to the wheels to spin. When a transmission isn't healthy, it can't do its job. If your vehicle either won't switch gears or just completely won't respond to any gear changes, this creates a very dangerous situation, especially if it happens while you are on the road. The cause can simply be the wrong transmission fluid type, malfunctioning sensors or computer system, or something more serious, like a series of mechanical failures. 4. Service Lights Toyota installs check engine lights for a very specific reason: to alert you to a problem. Ideally, this light will alert you so you can have your vehicle serviced before anything drastic can happen due to the problem. If this light is ignored, the problem will definitely persist and will likely get worse, causing a bigger headache and more costly repairs. 5. Noisy In general, your transmission should give you a smooth, silent ride. Any unfamiliar sounds while driving, switching gears, or even just idling in neutral, could be an indicator of transmission trouble. Keep an ear out for clunking, humming, whining, or buzzing. If any of these signs sound familiar to what you are experiencing, or if you recognize any of these happening in the future, come visit us right away. Call or stop by Tansky Sawmill Toyota today to let us service your vehicle. If your transmission is showing any signs of trouble, it needs to be fixed as soon as possible to minimize the damage.

5 Ways to Tell When Your Car Needs a Radiator Repair

Keeping your radiator healthy allows it to continue cooling your engine efficiently and safely. If your radiator has been compromised, early intervention is imperative for the life of your vehicle. When you start to notice your car not performing up to standard, radiator repair may be the answer. more 1. Passenger Side Heating Vent Is Not Working The cabin heater of your vehicle works by flowing hot coolant through its heater core. A blower fan then sends that warmer air through the vents. If the coolant is leaking or if the radiator is clogged, the coolant can't efficiently reach the heater core and never makes it to the passenger side vent. So if your passenger is complaining that the air vents are too cold, have your radiator checked out. 2. Radiator Fins Are Damaged Since the air passes through the radiator, if the fins are bent or dented in any way, the air won't be able to get enough cool air to the engine. While not common, the fins can be damaged by too much water pressure when being hosed down or even something as small as a rock getting kicked up from the road. If enough of the fins get dented, the airflow significantly slows and can cause overheating. 3. Radiator Fins Are Blocked The radiator fins don't have to be dented to slow airflow. Debris, leaves, or bugs can catch in the unit and build up over time, causing the fins to get clogged. Often, this is easily remedied by gently spraying your garden hose over the radiator, but don't put the water pressure too high so as not to accidentally bend one of the fins. If removing the sludge doesn't seem to help, bring it in and let us take a look. 4. Coolant Has Changed Color Next time coolant is added to your vehicle, notice the color. More often than not the coolant is a bright green or neon yellow. A healthy radiator will let the coolant flow through the fins freely. However, a radiator with an internal build-up of debris will contaminate the coolant and will change the color. The simplest way to check is to take a look at the coolant overflow tank. If the color has clouded, your coolant needs to be flushed. 5. Temperature-Gauge Needle Is Rising This gauge is placed in the driver's line of sight along with the instrument cluster. Glance at it from time to time and make sure the needle is staying right in the middle of the hot and cold. If you notice the needle starting to rise, get your car in for service as soon as possible. This gauge keeps track of the engine temperature, so if it begins to warm up, the radiator is not working properly. A malfunctioning radiator directly causes a damaged engine. By catching any symptoms of radiator failure early, you'll be saving yourself the time and frustration of more expensive repairs. Call or stop by Tansky Sawmill Toyota today if any aspect of your vehicle is concerning you.

Top 4 Signs You Need a New Car Battery

Making sure that your car battery is functional is one of the most important parts of car maintenance. Having a battery that doesn't work can cause inconvenience, and might even put you in danger. If you're wondering how to tell whether it's time for a battery change, here are a few signs that it's time to visit your dealership for a new car battery. more 1. Your Car Is Having Electrical Issues Your car's battery is what powers all of its electrical components. That means your headlights, interior lights, phone chargers, and anything else requiring power from electricity are run by your battery. But as your battery ages and starts losing its charge capacity, all these components of your car will stop working right. The lights on your dash will appear dimmer, your interior lights won't be as bright, and your headlights may not work properly even in the dark. This last thing could be dangerous since not being able to see in the dark could lead to an accident. 2. Your Battery Has Corrosive Buildup If you suspect that your battery might be going, take a look under the hood for yourself. A battery with corrosive buildup will likely have a white, ashy-looking buildup, usually on the positive terminal. This buildup can cause voltage problems with your battery, and make it difficult to start your car. You can clean off the buildup for yourself, as long as you have the right tools and the know-how. But it's best to replace the battery completely as soon as you can. 3. You Smell Something Strange Your car making a bad smell is never a good sign.
