2019 Toyota Corolla vs 2018 Toyota Corolla

Proudly Serving Dublin, OH

Although Toyota debuted an all-new hatchback version of its best-selling nameplate, the Corolla, for 2019, the same can?t be said for its original, four-door-sedan. The sedan will join the hatchback for the Corolla?s twelfth production cycle in 2020. In the meantime, the 2019 Corolla shares the same features as its immediate predecessor, the 2018 Corolla. And the six trims?the L, LE, XLE, LE Eco, SE, and XSE?remain intact.

Performance

The standard engine on the 2018 and 2019 Corolla is a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder that provides 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. However, if you go with the LE Eco, the engine is configured to produce 140 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. Also, the LE Eco is the only trim with an engine that is accompanied by valvematic technology, which improves fuel efficiency by controlling the fuel/air mixture using valve control rather than conventional throttle plate control. Combined with the standard continuously variable transmission (CVT)?which eschews the energy consumption of traditional gear shifting in favor of seamless change through a continuous range of effective gear ratios?the LE Eco produces the best fuel economy numbers on the Corolla: 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. The CVT goes on all trims but the sporty SE, which gets a 6-speed manual.

Appearance

The 2018 and 2019 Corolla stick with the sharp edges and overall sporty look that is characteristic of the car?s eleventh production cycle?complete with a bold front fascia with a piano-black grille. Also standard on the vehicle are bi-LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and 15-inch steel wheels. Upper-level trims are more likely to have upgrades or additions such as larger or alloy wheels, heating ability and turn-signal indicators on the side mirrors, power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade, a mesh-pattern grille, a rear spoiler, multi-LED headlights with LED accent lights, and bumper-integrated LED DRLs.

Features

As a five-seater, the 2018 and 2019 Toyota Corollas provide up to 97.5 cubic feet in passenger volume, in addition to 13 cubic feet of cargo volume. Standard comfort and convenience features include 3.5-inch monochrome multi-information display (MID) screen, a rearview camera, Bluetooth® for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, advanced voice recognition, the Siri® Eyes Free virtual assistant, a USB 2.0 port and auxiliary audio jack for connecting mobile devices, six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, a single-disc CD player, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen. Additions or enhancements include synthetic leather seat trim, 8-way power on the driver?s seat, automatic climate control, remote keyless or smart key entry, push-button start, a 4.2-inch color MID screen, HD Radio?, a trial subscription to SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, navigation system, and a 7-inch touchscreen. For restraint and cushioning in the event of a crash, the 2018/2019 Corolla has a pair of front impact airbags, a pair of front seat-mounted side airbags, a driver knee airbag, a passenger seat-cushion airbag, and two side curtain airbags. The Corolla also has Toyota Safety Sense? P (TSS-P), which comprises the pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control; and the Star Safety System?, which includes enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, an anti-lock brake system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart stop technology.
