What's New for the 2018 Toyota Camry?

The 2018 model year marks the beginning of the eighth production cycle for the Toyota Camry, which still remains one of the top midsize sedan nameplates around. The Camry now uses the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, which is the combination of components that the Toyota Prius, a hybrid hatchback, and the all-new C-HR, a subcompact crossover, use. Also, for the first time ever, the Camry's trims which are the L, LE, SE, XLE, and XSE uses the front fascia to differentiate themselves from one another.

The standard engine on the 2018 Toyota Camry is the A25A-FKS, which is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder that generates 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. However, if you choose the top-of-the-line XSE trim, that output is increased to 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Also, on the XSE and the similarly upper-level XLE, you can instead go with the 2GR-FKS, which is a 3.5-liter V6 that generates 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. Each engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Designed as a five-seater, the new Camry provides a peak passenger volume of 100.4 cubic seat, as well as a trunk that provides up to 15.1 cubic feet of cargo volume. For comfort and convenience, the sedan starts off with features such as 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display, six-speaker audio audio, Bluetooth® wireless technology, Siri® Eyes Free voice-command technology, a three-year complimentary subscription to the Connected Navigation Scout® GPS Link app, an Entune multimedia system, and a 7-inch touchscreen. Options or upper-level features include power lumbar support on the driver's seat, leather or sports-style vinyl upholstery, front-seat 8-way power adjustability and heating capability, dual-zone automatic climate control, a smart key system, a 7- or 8-inch multi-information display, in place of the 4.2-inch, a garage-door opener, auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror, a panoramic power tilt-and-slide glass moonroof, HD Radio, a 10-inch color head-up display, wireless device charging ability, a three-month SiriusXM® satellite radio trial subscription, a single-disc CD player, and a complimentary six-month Wi-Fi hotspot subscription that includes an allowance of up to 2 GB.

Most of the safety features on the 2018 Camry are categorized into two packages: Toyota Safety Sense P, which combines auto high beams, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, and dynamic radar cruise control; and the Star Safety System, which includes electronic vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart stop technology. Also standard are ten airbags, a backup camera, four-wheel power-assisted ventilated disc brakes, hill start assist, engine immobilization as a theft-deterrent, and ToyotaCare for a no-cost maintenance plan with roadside assistance. Upper-level trims are more likely to also get blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, intelligent clearance sonar technology with rear cross-traffic braking, a spruced-up theft-deterrent system, and a complimentary three-year trial subscription to the Safety Connect® suite of services, which includes stolen vehicle recovery, roadside assistance, emergency assistance, and automatic collision notification.
