Serving Columbus, OH

The Toyota 4Runner SUV adds new packages for 2018, while the Highlander eight-passenger SUV was completely revamped last year. Both SUVs offer excellent durability, safety, convenience and performance. Highlander is classified as a small SUV, and it is a crossover vehicle with unibody construction. The standard-size 4Runner is one of the few remaining SUVs with body-on-frame construction for trucklike strength and durability blended with modern handling and ride.

Performance

The 4Runner engine is a 4.0-liter V6 outputting 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. It is available in 2WD, part-time 4WD and full-time 4WD configurations. Highlander offers a choice of three engines. The standard engine is a 2.7-liter I-4 with 185 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Next up is a 3.5-liter V6 putting out 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft directed to the either the front two wheels or all four through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Highlander Hybrid has a V6 engine and two AC 650-volt permanent-magnet motors that together deliver 306 horsepower and fuel economy up to 30 city/28 highway mpg.

Appearance

The sharp-looking 2018 Highlander has a giant grille and blunt nose. The Highlander SE model is available with a blackout trim package. The cabin is comfortable and spacious, with several USB ports, attractive upholstered seats, a 6.1-inch touchscreen display and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Extra storage room is provided by a large center console and dashboard shelf. The 2018 4Runner exclaims ruggedness with its aggressive appearance, punctuated by slanted headlights above a front fascia with boomerang-shaped features. The 4Runner TRD model boasts higher ground clearance and a hood scoop.

Features

Both models are equipped with driver, passenger, rear side, driver knee, front head curtain, front side, and rear head curtain airbags, as well as a rearview camera. Highlander comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense Plus that includes active cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams and lane-departure alert and warning. The brawny 4Runner boasts beefy side-impact door beams, a tire pressure monitor system, Safety Connect and the Toyota Star Safety System that includes anti-lock brakes, traction control, vehicle stability control, brake assist, smart-stop technology and electronic brake-force distribution.
